Case study

T.A. America Corporation

Appliance components manufacturer increases warehouse efficiency through mobile automation with RFgen® for Oracle Cloud SCM.

Outcome

Following a quick and cost-efficient implementation of RFgen®, T. A. America began seeing the benefits of digital transformation right away. RFgen® for Oracle Cloud enabled the company to:

  • Eliminate paper printouts and data entry
  • Increase labor efficiency
  • Re-allocate labor used for manual processes
  • Raise data accuracy
  • Gain real-time visibility

Now, as materials are processed on the warehouse floor, transactions are recorded and validated in real-time in Oracle Cloud instead of being updated hours after the fact. Mistakes and discrepancies from manual processes are a thing of the past.

As Barber explains, “I don’t have to wait until the end of the day to get that bin sheet. Now it’s happening in real time.”

Between the added efficiency and going paperless, the warehouse was able to reduce wasted overhead costs and begin scaling material handling.

Next, the company plans to add more functionality at their La Vergne location, such as a customized picking app, and then roll out RFgen®  to additional sites in California.

Challenge

T. A. America develops and manufactures components for home appliances, air conditioning, and the automotive industry. The company recently upgraded from Oracle EBS to Oracle Fusion Cloud and needed a mobile data collection solution that would increase efficiency in its La Vergne, Tennessee warehouse.

Its processes involved paperwork and data entry. For instance, to perform a put-away required handwritten bin sheets that were turned in periodically throughout the day. Bin sheet information would then be manually entered into Oracle at a PC workstation by a separate worker. As a result, Oracle data lagged behind work on the floor and material handling couldn’t be scaled.

Solution

After evaluating possible solutions, T. A. America selected RFgen for Oracle Cloud, the premier mobile barcoding solution for complex and unique supply chain processes. RFgen was the ideal solution because of its malleability to fit specific process needs, rather than attempting to work around an out-of-the-box solution. Other solutions couldn’t be configured to exact needs like RFgen.

With RFgen, the business would be able to automate its complex paper-based processes, and reduce errors and productivity bottlenecks. The team especially liked RFgen’s ease of use and user-friendly interface, both of which make executing transactions much faster than before.

Additionally, RFgen includes a desktop client that warehouse manager Craig Barber could use to monitor warehouse work in real time. Barber explains: “I have great visibility into what’s happening on the warehouse floor.”
